Why Your Fridge Is Not Cooling
A fridge that is not cooling is usually one of a few faults, and you can narrow it down before you call.

Start with airflow and temperature
Check that food is not blocking the vents inside, that the door seals all the way round, and that the fridge is not packed tight against the wall. Then check the real temperature with a thermometer, not just how the air feels.
Coils, fans, and defrost faults
Dirty condenser coils make a fridge work harder and cool worse. A fan that has stopped, or ice choking the evaporator because a defrost part failed, both look like a fridge that has simply given up.
When to call, and what to do first
Move perishable food to a cooler, keep the door shut, and call. Do not keep resetting a fridge that is clicking on and off. Tell us the brand, the model if you can find it, and whether the freezer still works - that one detail narrows the fault a lot.

How long can food stay safe in a warm fridge?
Perishable food should not stay above 40掳F for more than two hours. When in doubt, throw it out.
Is it the compressor?
Not usually. Fans, defrost parts, thermostats, and dirty coils fail more often, and cost less. We test them first.
Can I clean the coils myself?
If you can reach them safely with the fridge unplugged, yes, a soft brush helps. Do not bend fins or pull on wiring.
Should I buy a new fridge?
If it is old, has had repeated faults, and the repair is a sealed-system job, replacement may be the honest answer. We will lay out both options.
